Original Item. Only One Available. This is a great WWII example of an M1909 “Daisy Mae” fatigue cap used by the U.S. Marines, with a great period EGA affixed to the upturned brim on the front of the cap. This is interesting as these caps were meant to have the brim downturned.
The cap is roughly size 6¾. The EGA is affixed to the front of the brim with a washer that has been in place for a very long time, and we have not attempted to remove it. The cap is similar to the WWI era construction of these caps with some minor differences, making this almost certainly an inter-war manufacture.
This is a scarce example, perfect for any Marine Corps collection, ready for further research and display.
The Fatigue Hats were initially known as: “Hats, Blue Denim” from 1909 to around 1913. By 1915, the name had changed to, “Hats, Denim”, which was used up to and possibly after 1917. The name was changed sometime between 1911 and 1913 to indicate that the hats were no longer being made from just blue denim. The word “blue” was dropped to signify that the hats were now being made in more than one color, for example, blue (1909 to 1919), olive drab (1910 to 1917), brown (1917 to 1918).
